Hi gg-dolls,

Here is what the live discussion/chat will be about:

The readings this week focus on the process of action research and models for peer coaching to support instructional improvement. How would you use peer coaching to guide teachers to conduct action research in their classrooms? You might identify a specific example of action research that could involve peer coaching. What strategies might you use (or what has your school used) to gain faculty buy-in when implementing action research and peer coaching?

This is from the rubric:

  • All teammates engaged in facilitation by posting follow-up comments and feedback
  • Comments and feedback encouraged critical thinking
  • Discussion activity was summarized and included additional questions to consider

Possible guiding questions for the blog postings:

What was one new method that you learned during the chat about using peer coaching to conduct action research in classrooms? What impressed you about this approach?

What was one new strategy that you learned during the chat about gaining faculty buy-in when implementing action research and peer coaching? What impressed you about this strategy?

What topics did you enjoy that were not covered in the chat? (We will use this as a closure questions) - Lisette

Do we want a response to the process (ie: What do you think worked well in the chat? What was difficult?)? I'm not advocating for this, but maybe someone else feels strongly that we should include it....

Ladies-
This week's discussion is on peer coaching & action research. When it is our turn to host, the topic is
Levels of Technology Implementation Framework (see week 7). Therefore, I modified Teresa's questions by inserting LoTi where it was peer coaching & action research. Also, the directions identify Friday as our due date to inform Deb & Donna. However, look over the blog & let me know what modifications may need to be made. Also, when we discussed possible ideas for the blog, we mentioned that each classmate should post a question for the next to answer. Did we still want to do that? Let me know, asap so that I can include that inthe directions for the blog activity.

Other ideas:
We could break up the group so that each of us posts follow-up questions/responses to 5 people (or however many it works out to be). We could also make it so that each class member has to respond to one other person's post.

It's a lot for the reporter to have to summarize all of this! If each of us summarized the responses of the group of people she was tracking (the 5 or however many people it was we each posed follow-up remarks to), then the reporter could summarize from each of the google dolls' summaries-- more in line with the way we normally do it. Does that make sense?

Please post additional comments here and where relevant in your own ink color.
Thanks!
-Teresa

Teresa, what you have so far is good. The blog is a great idea. I think to do groups for responding (5) is good number. I also like to summarize what we have so the reporter is not overwhelemed looking at all the responses. The guiding questions are good, but do we really have to do that plus the general questions? Are we going to have to respond to those too? That would be a lot to summarize. What do you think girls? Nancy

Nancy, the question I posted above in italics are what the whole class responds to during the initial chat. Hope that clarifies.

Ladies-
This looks good! I think both the topic & process questions are appropriate. Possibly looking at application to the real world. I do think we can work as a team to compile a set number of responses from classmates, then turn that over to the reporter. Who is responsible for setting up the blog?
Thanks. Talk with you soon.
-Van

Setting up the blog sounds like a resource person job, perhaps. Week 7, Nancy is the resource person.
Nancy, as the coach that week, I'm happy to help you set that up. If you need any support, please let me know.
It looks like we have all provided our input. If it hasn't already been determined, could our reporter for this week (Van?) summarize the process? Are we clear, too, on who is sending what to whom this week?
Thanks!! Sorry if I'm repeating any points from tonight's discussion!
Teresa

The blog is posted, **http://www.sup2wk7.blogspot.com/**. I sent an email to clarify the directions for the group to follow. Just awaiting some feedback from the team.
